What solunar actually is

Solunar tables come from a 1926 idea that fish feed hardest when the moon is directly overhead or directly underfoot (the major periods) and, more weakly, at moonrise and moonset (the minor periods). The rating blends moon phase, those period times and day length arithmetically. Nothing on this page is measured.

There is no strong published evidence that solunar timing beats simply fishing a moving tide. What it is genuinely useful for: picking between two otherwise identical mornings, or deciding whether a pre-dawn start is worth it. What it is not useful for: overriding what the water is telling you.

If you want one number to plan around, use the bite forecast, which weighs tide, wind, water temperature and barometric trend alongside this. The tide table is the honest first thing to check.

Sun and moon times are computed for this pier's coordinates. All times Eastern.
